	*Ready-to-Use Foods* (RUFs) are highly fortified, oil-based nutrient dense pastes specifically designed for the treatment of malnutrition. They are made from varying combinations of grains, pulses and seeds, milk powder, sugar, oil, vitamins and minerals. They are precooked and ready to eat straight from the pack. 	Local Production
	• Valid Nutrition (VN) produces and distributes either itself or through third parties, its own branded ready-to-use foods (RUFs) under the Valid Nutrition brand name in Malawi, Kenya and Zambia. VN will soon start production in Ethiopia and has plans for operations in West Africa, and in due course a number of other African countries. • Local production avoids the high costs of raw materials, labour, transport and import duties, associated with delivering RUF from Europe. VN use locally available ingredients wherever possible, which, together with employment from our production, helps to stimulate the local economy. • VN's ready-to-use foods are currently supplied to a variety of international humanitarian agencies, local NGOs and national governments. To guarantee quality, VN trains production staff in correct manufacturing methods and enforces strict standards for quality assurance. Local VN managers monitor all aspects of production to ensure orders are met in a timely fashion with high quality products. • Due to the generous funding received from Irish Aid, VN are currently well advanced in developing a range of new (and lower cost) RUF recipes made from locally available, affordable crops.
